Choral Scholar / Staff Singer

• The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter located in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, announces an opening for a Bass/Baritone, or Tenor, Choral Scholar position (section leaders) for the academic year 2025-2026. The choral scholars sing in the Holy Comforter Choir, an adult ensemble of approximately 30 voices. The choir rehearses weekly from September-May and sings for the 10:00am service on Sundays. A general overview of the choir’s responsibilities is:
  
  

  • Provide musical leadership for Sunday Eucharist

  • Sing for occasional seasonal liturgies, including: All Saints’ Day; Christmas Eve; Holy Week

    (Maundy Thursday and Good Friday); Easter Vigil; and Easter Day.

  • Sing for additional services on an as-needed basis (including monthly Choral Evensong;

    usually 3rd Sundays at 5:00pm)
    
    

• Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesdays, 7:15-9:00pm. Occasional additional rehearsals are held as announced, well in advance (including half-day retreats on a Saturday in the fall and spring).

• Currently, the Choral Scholar positions pay $50 per call per week, and a typical week is Wednesday

  rehearsal and Sunday Eucharist (9:15am rehearsal, 10:00am service). Absences must be cleared as

  far as possible in advance with the director.

• The ideal candidate for this position will possess good sight-reading skills, the ability to

  blend in a choral setting, and the ability to provide solid leadership within respective

  sections of the choir. A positive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to be musically

  challenged are also welcomed.
